Welcome to the magic of Northern New Mexico

As an abstract painter living in Santa Fe, New Mexico I am drawn to the high desert arroyos and canyons for inspiration and grounding for my paintings. The light here is amazing. In winter the sun stays low in the southern sky. Shadows are soft and we often get overcast days when everything seems so evenly light that objects have no edge definition, everything is flat.

In the summer the sun is high in the sky and the shadows are deep and black and cool. Colors are intense. The best time to walk or hike is early in the morning. During the summer rainy season we often get a shower overnight. In the morning the arroyos are clean and scrubbed. I always take my camera which I use as a sort of digital sketchbook. I am constantly looking for interesting detail and textures which I add to my image bank.

I recently completed my artist video which is linked to this page above. In it you will experience some of the places and textures and energy that inform my work. The painting in the video is called “Desert Rose L.A. L.A.” Look for it on the “paintings” page. Enjoy.
